Spectacular photography

This is a perfect gift for a maniacal fly fisherman, the kind of guy that checks out the spiderwebs by the side of the creek to see what bugs have been hatching. The photographs of the various mayflies in different stages of their life cycles are absolutely, jaw-dropping spectacular. The accompanying text is mercifully light on the Latin taxonomy, but contains just the right amount of natural history. As a plus, some examples of flies imitating nymphs, duns and spinners are included at the end of each chapter, along with material info. Of course, they're well photographed, too. A few tips about fishing the hatches and spinner falls are tossed in as well. OK, so if you know what I'm talking about, you want this book. One caveat - the author lives in PA, so it's mostly about Eastern mayflies.

I purchased this book by Ted Fauceglia with the anticipation that his fine works were fully exemplified in this publication.
This book is an exceptional sample of Ted's work and I am immeasurably impressed by it. For the fly fisherman and fly tier this is a "must have" book, if not only to admire the beautiful insect images. The value in this book is not only the excellent images, but equqally the insect descriptions and distribution, along with the great fly patterns.

Enjoy bugs anytime

The information in this book is well written and useful but what I truly enjoy are the photographs. They are excellent. Absolutely excellent. And the quality of the the print (Italy I think) is top shelf. Now, if you are a fly tier who would like a better look at the little bugs we try to imitate that will make this book even better. I am trying new ideas on old fly patterns jut to see if I can bring them a little closer to the real thing. Tight Lines

Witty and brilliant.

If you are expecting the usual L.M. Montgomery story with feisty young girls having adventures and meeting boys etc, you will be disappointed in this book. If you, on the other hand, can free youself from this expectation, you are in for a treat. The story is about a coveted heirloom, the Dark jug. The head of the Dark and Penhallow clans, Aunt Becky, dies, and leaves everyone wondering who will inherit the Dark jug. However, her will stipulates that no one will know until a year after her death. This year brings about many changes in the clan, and the story follows several clan members, irrespective of wether they want the jug or not. At times it is touching, at times it is wickedly funny.

My only caveat is that if you have problems with pet cats being killed, you might struggle a bit with one of the last chapters.

What a great read, I really enjoyed the way it was written I stayed up late into the night because I couldn't put it down. I really felt connected with the characters, I guess the biggest impression it made on me is that no matter what cards your dealt with in life, there is always hope and faith. Two girls from different, and I mean different backgrounds, by chance meet and.....well, I think it's best you read for yourself. I really hope there is a continuation of this story, I enjoyed Dutch and Shyla's journey but it's far from over.

This was a fun and emotional read. The building relationship between two friends that grows beyond friendship. The book flowed very well and definitely drew me into the world of these girls. I was unfortunately left wanting more. It just ended...

A long, slow disappointment

There were things that I really did like about this novel, specifically the non-rushed and genuine affection that seemed to build between the two primary characters. Unfortunately, besides a number of editorial mistakes, the book just drags on and on, with Shy and Dutch seemingly doing pretty much the same stuff over and over. About a third of the book could have been trimmed out without losing any of the important bits. And then the end comes and . . . well, it just ends. You get to the inevitable conflict that everyone knew was coming, and there's no real resolution to it. There's a hint that there will be some kind of resolution (even if it's not a happy one), but then the book just kind of ends with what could be most generously referred to as a half-hearted epilogue, and then cue the end credits. And that's it. You have very little idea of what happens to Dutch, and none whatsoever of what happens with Shy. I'm seriously confused as to what the author was trying to accomplish with this story but unless causing confusion was it, I would have to say that it just didn't work.
