A Classic and Exceptional Work

Ten years ago, I had the opportunity of speaking before the Wichita, Kansas Council of Elders, where one of the Elders was being inducted into service. Having travelled extensively across the country and observing other attempts, I was thoroughly impressed with the Wichita Council of Elders, and their influence and effectiveness in the Wichita community. This work by Dr. Maaskelah Thomas, who has intimate knowledge of the Wichita COE, is the first of it's kind to capture the traditional spirit of the Council of Elders, and to adjust that spirit to contemporary community organizing efforts. Dr. Thomas' organizational knowledge compliments her research of COE, and rewards us, with a guide to building a system and network of Council of Elders programs throughout the country and Diaspora. I strongly advocate for any organizer working in Black Communities around the country to read this book, and use it as a guide to their current work. There is no doubt, this exceptional book, will become a classic work right along side Chancellor Williams', Destruction of African Civilization.

This book is very interesting and informative. It has great information for every fitness level from beginner to expert, and pictures that show you how to do the exercises. I liked how it tied in the fitness aspects with real examples from off road racing....and I found myself laughing at how much I could relate to the examples. I can't wait to try some of the things I learned. I'll update my review if I win a race!

Occasionally, a new tool is discovered – or at least, refined – and we include one which was just discovered in 1999 – introspective sort. But most of them have been part of the standard programmer’s tool chest for decades.

Unlike the majority of textbooks in this field, this book takes a “code first” approach.  After a brief introduction of the concepts, a short complete ANSI-C program is presented for students to analyse. A number of questions arising from the code are then posed and answered in the Socratic format. In this way, we hope that the reader will not only become fluent in the concepts but also in the “nuts and bolts” of translating these concepts into functioning, efficient standard C code. Variable pointer diagrams are developed and used extensively to aid understanding of the more complex data structures and their manipulation.

I'm one of the authors of this book, and I wanted to point out that this book comes with a CD-ROM full of animations illustrating the concepts.
